[ What is Mutagen? ]

The game revolves around one interesting feature our game provides: being able to modify your genetic code. This presents us with interesting ways in which our character can develop throughout the game.
• Short Term Effects: Modifying your G.C gives you short term effects, or rather, effects that are realized the moment you modify it. This could include, but is not exclusive to; appearance change, skill set change, class change, disposition change. • Long term effects: Modifying your G.C also presents long term effects, or rather, effects that are only noticeable as certain future conditions are met. This could include, but are not exclusive to; overall appearance change, permanent disposition change against specific NPC’s, storyline change, quests modifications, skill set change, party member changes. • Combination: By combining different genetic codes, different effects are presented. For example: if you used genetic code from an avian creature, this would grant you the ability to fly across short distances, or jump rather far. Maybe, when using fish G.C, you are granted the ability to breath underwater. But perhaps, but combining them, you would gain certain respects from both species, but at the same time, a combined ability (like, the ability to create storms, or the ability to cause rain to fall when you fly.) • Inheritance, reproduction, termination: Creatures may be caught, and bred for optimal DNA. We use the Uniform Crossover and Half Uniform Crossover algorithms to solve this. (See Algorithm section for more information.)

The storyline begins with cut scenes of your character on an operating table. You find out you've been tested on with a new chemical known as Mutagen. Your then brought outside the domed city you once lived in, and dumped at an experiment plant outside. you manage to escape, and in doing so, release knowledge of your powers.
The storyline develops nicely. There are 4 factions that control the domes, and there is a "rebel" faction outside. You start out joining the Rebel faction, but then by doing things differently, can ultimately lead to different factions.

Project Mutagen is an ongoing project for school, but also an ongoing study of different aspects of game creation. Things we wish to complete include, but are not exclusive to: battle system, creature breeding system, genetics system, the games storyline, the creation of the world, and of course, the method in which all of these aspects tie together. There will also be a focus on character development, how the characters genetic make-up decides the difficulty of specific missions, and how his genetic make-up, actions and the mission he chooses, affects his overall disposition (Good or Evil). As you may or may not have realized, character development is what we wish to emphasize.
